Today, 15 Jun 2012, Norway issued two new lighthouse stamps depicting lighthouses in Oslo Fjord.
Kavringen Lighthouse was built in 1892 and is located on Søndre Kavringdyne, a group of skerries in the western seaward approach to the Port of Oslo. As part of the Millenium celebration in 2000 a titanium time capsule containing letters from the people of Oslo to people of the future was bolted to the inside of the lighthouse. It cannot be opened until the year 3000.
Medfjordbåen Lighthouse built in 1876 is on a sunken rock in the middle of the Oslo Fjord, off Slangentangen in the county of Vestfold.
The stamps are for domestic use.
