2016 Norway Lighthouse Stamps

On 1 October 2016 Norway Post issued a set of two stamps in an ongoing lighthouse series. The first stamp shows the two Sandvigodden lighthouses which are located at the east end of Hisøy Island at the approach to Arenal. The first lighthouse, shown on the right, was built in 1844 and has been inactive since 1934 when it was replaced by a slightly taller structure immediately adjacent to it.

The second stamp features Sklinna Lighthouse located on the island of Heimøya in the Sklinna archipelago midway up the west coast of Norway. This is a cast iron structure housing a 2nd order Fresnel lens.

Norway 50 Kroner Banknote

Norway is in the process of redesigning it’s paper money in order to improve security. The new banknotes are scheduled to go into circulation in 2017. The theme of the money is “The Sea”. On the front of the bills there is a normal picture but on the back, the image is pixelated. The notes range in value from 50 Kroner to 1000 Kroner and the higher the value the more the pixelation. This represents increasing wind states on the Beaufort Scale. The 50 Kr note features a stylized lighthouse as pictured below. More information and images can be found here.
