On July 12 2017 the United States Postal Service issued a sheet of 12 stamps to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of American artist Andrew Wyeth. Each of the stamps features one of Wyeth’s paintings. One of the stamps shows the painting “Sailor’s Valentine” and prominently displays Tenants Harbor Lighthouse, also known as Southern Island Lighthouse. The light, first constructed in 1857 on the coast of Maine, was deactivated in 1933 and was purchased by Andrew Wyeth in 1978. He died in 2009 and the light is currently owned by his son Jamie.
