Canada Lighthouse Sheet, 2014

On 28 May 1914 the Royal Mail ship Empress of Ireland collided with the Norwegian coal carrier Storstad. The next day the Empress, having suffered severe damage to her starboard side, sank in the St. Lawrence River with heavy loss of life. A light buoy was placed at the position of her sinking and is represented on the sheet and postal cards shown below which were issued on 29 May 2014 by Canada Post.

Great Britain Lighthouse Stamp, 18 Sep 2014

On 18 Sep 2014 Royal Mail issued a miniature sheet plus six individual stamps in the “Seaside Architecture” series. One of the stamps features Southwold Lighthouse. The current lighthouse was established in 1890 and was electrified in 1938.
